Two nursing students on a laptop

New roles for nurses are emerging and nursing education is changing to meet the complex health care needs of our population. Grounded in the science of caring and mindfulness practice, and in partnership with local health care agencies, HSU’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing program prepares registered nurses with the knowledge, attitude, and skills to address the unique needs of rural and tribal communities.

Program Overview

HSU’s RN-BSN program expands on clinical nursing skills to provide students with a larger lens to view the social determinants of health in communities where their patients live, work, and play. Registered nurses bring lived experience working in health care and insight into the needs of our community.

The BSN degree enhances this training and experience to provide nurses with a systems perspective on improving health care for all. Nurses will develop the leadership and communications skills needed to be interdisciplinary partners in delivering higher-quality care at a lower cost, in a way that increases access and reduces burnout among the health care workforce.

Due to COVID-19, our otherwise hybrid program will be delivered ALL ONLINE for the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 semesters. Current RN's and new RN graduates, or those graduating by Spring 2021, can apply NOW for the Fall 2021 part time cohort.

Career Options

BSN-prepared nurses will gain essential skills in critical thinking and change management and will be prepared to lead and promote innovation in health care systems.
